Call for Participation - Foregrounding: Developing and Demonstrating Effective Architectural Learning Through Country 2025-26

Foregrounding: Developing and Demonstrating Effective Architectural Learning Through Country.

The intention of this project is to establish a focused cross-institutional Community of Practice [CoP] to share approaches to the effective design of learning experiences and assessment tasks through which First Nations PCs can be demonstrated. This is aimed at generating a CoP to support non-indigenous staff who are working in this curriculum area. We will share the development of our academic practices so that we are better prepared to effectively deliver the PC’s in collaboration with first nations academic colleagues and consultants.

We are now inviting participation in this project across 2025/26. Initially we are looking to convene a small group of 6-8 programs/schools across Australia and Aotearoa.

In 2025 the CoP will meet 4 times in the year:

Week of 14 April : online / 2 hours

  • Share your program’s approaches to the design of learning experiences and assessment tasks in relation to Country and First nations PC’s. This will require pre-population of a Mural board, a very short presentation and participation in discussion.

Week  of 16 June : online / 2 hours

  • Update on how your program’s approaches have developed In more detail, reflect on how the design of learning experiences and assessment tasks have facilitated delivery of Country and First nations PC’s and what you may change in future

  • Plan for a presentation for the 2025 AASA meeting

September : online 1 hour

  • Mid semester 2 we will check in on presentation for AASA meeting

October : in person

  • Present material in progress at AASA meeting

In 2026 we will document this work through a series of short videos.

If you or your colleagues would like to join this community of practice, please contact

Kathy Waghorn before Monday February 17th.
