Position Description
The School of Architecture (SOA) at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications and nominations for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in time-based media and creative approaches with AI technologies. Exceptional candidates with qualifications suitable for a higher, tenured rank will also be considered.
The successful candidate will be an accomplished designer and educator whose work integrates spatial design, emerging technologies, and AI-driven media. They will demonstrate innovative teaching and research or creative practice that explores dynamic spatial environments, narrative design, and temporal modeling through digital and data-driven tools.
Responsibilities include:
Teaching design studios and related courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Conducting research or creative practice that advances architectural design and time-based media.
Contributing to the School’s interdisciplinary collaborations and service commitments.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
Dynamic environmental modeling and simulation
AI-enhanced visualization and storytelling
Data-driven spatial design
Sensory and experiential media
Integration of building technology and digital design
Faculty are encouraged to collaborate across the Colleges of Fine Arts and Communication, while maintaining a design-focused appointment within the School of Architecture.
About the School of Architecture
The UT Austin School of Architecture offers accredited and research-based programs in Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Community and Regional Planning, alongside advanced degrees in Urban Design, Sustainable Design, Historic Preservation, and Architectural History.
Key features include:
A strong studio culture with ~700 students across programs.
Research centers such as the Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) and the Center for American Architecture and Design (CAAD).
Extensive fabrication and visualization facilities, including the Materials Lab, Technology Lab, Build Lab, and Wood Shop.

Qualifications
Terminal professional degree in Architecture or a related design discipline (M.Arch, D.Des, or equivalent).
Demonstrated excellence in design practice and/or teaching, particularly in time-based media, AI-assisted design, or spatial visualization.
Evidence of a research or creative trajectory that contributes to the discipline’s advancement.
Proficiency in current and emerging technologies for modeling, simulation, storytelling, and data visualization.
