The History & Theory strand of the 2026 PORTO HERITAGE(S) conference ‘UNESCO Perspectives: Cultural Pasts – Urban Futures, is intended to highlight work being done in architectural and urban design, social history, cultural studies, archeology, digital heritage, conservation studies and more.
Specifically, it takes the fifty fifth anniversary of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention as its point of departure and argues that our current reading of heritage demands interdisciplinary knowledge, approaches and collaborations: architectural, urban, historic, artistic, social, technological and more.
This Session Call is specifically interested in contemporary design in historic contexts.

URBAN CONSERVATION - LIVABLE TOWNS, CITIES, REGIONS 2027 is part of the international and interdisciplinary conference and publication series led by AMPS. Bringing together universities and scholars globally, it examines diverse readings of the design, urban planning, design, management and experience of life in cities.
Previous conferences in have been held in New York, London, Bangalore, Lisbon, Barcelona, Calgary and elsewhere. The 2026 annual conference is organised with the University of Salford, Manchester, UK.
This Session Call is specifically interested in contemporary design in historic contexts.
