TOP 5 – ABC Media Residency Program, 2026
Applications for the 2026 ABC Top 5 Arts program are open now. This prestigious program offers 5 early career researchers the opportunity to undertake an intensive two-week residency at the ABC in August, learning how to communicate with the media and audiences about their research and field of expertise.
Applications now open and close 11.59 (AEST) Monday 6 April.

ABOUT THE ABC TOP 5
The ABC TOP 5 is for early-career PhD scholars with a passion for communicating their work to non-academic audiences, and the five winners in each category get the opportunity to spend two weeks at the ABC learning about the media and developing new communication skills.
Each year, ABC Radio National puts out a call to Australia's higher education sector and research organisations to find the TOP 5 early career PhD scholars in three categories — click on one of the following links for full details and how to apply:
THE ABC TOP 5 RESIDENCIES AIM TO:
enable early-career PhD academics to become the best communicators of their specialist research areas.
demystify the media experience and build the researcher's confidence in engaging with the media.
help the researchers connect with broader, non-academic audiences.
introduce participants to the ABC's approach to content creation.
develop talent, commentators and regular guests for ABC programs across audio, television and digital.
Give ABC content makers the opportunity to share their skills and experience whilst building new relationships, contacts and networks.
