About the Position
Located in the Academy of the Arts, this position requires a dynamic architecture academic committed to excellence in teaching, research, and professional engagement. As the Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer of Architecture, you will provide academic leadership in developing and delivering innovative educational courses with student-centred learning, through on-campus and flexible delivery approaches. Your focus on sustainable design will suit tropical, arid, developed, and remote Territory contexts, with particular emphasis on architecture that responds to Context, Climate, Culture, and Community. Combining impactful research leadership with professional engagement, you will contribute to external accreditation processes, supervise HDR students, and help to build the discipline's research profile. You will support student success, advance vernacular architectural knowledge, and strengthen professional connections, while contributing to adaptive, sustainable, and appropriate built environments that address Northern and Central Australia's architectural challenges.
About You
Essential Selection Criteria
PhD in Architecture (or equivalent professional experience) with demonstrated excellence in architectural education, research, and/or practice relevant to Australian contexts.
Desirable Selection Criterion
Professional Registration as an Architect through an Australian State or Territory Architect Registration Board (or equivalent).
To be successful, you will also require
Track record of teaching excellence at tertiary level, including implementation of transformative and/or experimental pedagogical approaches that authentically respond to contemporary architectural practice.
Demonstrated ability to develop flexible learning materials for diverse student cohorts, including online students, and those located in remote regions.
Established sustainable and climate-responsive design teaching experience alongside an appreciation of Indigenous knowledges for different environmental contexts.
Evidence of success in building professional networks and promoting architectural programs, with a research-informed understanding of the Territory's unique architectural challenges and demonstrated ability to attract students and industry engagement.
Experience in research project leadership and HDR student supervision with demonstrated capacity for research collaboration, and a record of securing competitive grants.
Demonstrated capacity for strategic partnerships, work-integrated learning delivery, and active development of professional networks and industry connections, to enhance architectural education and program visibility.
Commitment to decolonised pedagogical approaches that integrate Indigenous knowledges with contemporary architectural practice.
Additional Key Selection Criteria at Level D
Demonstrated strategic leadership in architectural education that challenges traditional frameworks and capacity to create educational pathways that overcome structural barriers for Territory students.
Experience supervising HDR students and mentoring academic staff with excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively across disciplines and with diverse cohorts.
Proven record in attracting and securing external competitive research funding whilst establishing a national and/or international research reputation.
Evidence of connecting Indigenous and diverse knowledge systems with professional practice through research leadership and collaboration.

Remuneration
Appointment to this role will be at Research Active Academic Level C/D. The base salary will be in the range of $138,554.22– $177,588.20 per annum. The total remuneration package will be in the range of $162,108.43- $207,778.19 per annum, including 17% superannuation.
